A DAY IN THE LIFE OF RAH... TELL US WHAT IT'S LIKE.
Most days I wake up anytime from 10am to 12pm, check Facebook and emails, check out some music, make late breakfast / early lunch - not in that order.
There’s not much of a routine, which I am enjoying at the moment as a freelancer. Things are getting busy for Darker Than Wax and Revision Music, so I’ve been putting in work for that - a lot of coordinating, planning and emails for gigs.
I still do freelance PR on the side, so I try to put aside some coffee time to meet up potential clients, and friends, for some work. Gid money!
THE MUSIC THAT YOU PLAY HAS A PRETTY WIDE RANGE, BUT THE GENERAL VIBE IS INTIMATE, SEXY AND VERY GROOVY. CAN YOU SHARE WITH US YOUR INFLUENCES?
I’m still learning and listening so much, so the range is definitely growing wider. I’m playing house and disco stuff now that I would never have played five years ago - so my sets and mixes reflect a personal journey that is indeed intimate, and a melting pot of many sounds. My personal influences are rooted in 90s rap and hiphop, drum and bass, and I’m a sucker for percussive rhythms and am always down to put on a Latin, Afro or Caribbean joint - always gets the crowd dancing.
WHAT'S THE MOST REWARDING THING IN DJ-ING FOR YOU?
This DJ thing has been taking a life on its own - I didn’t plan to do this on the regular, so having the opportunity to get paid, and occasionally travel, while playing music you like, is extremely rewarding. Linking up and working together with like-minded artists is also a bonus, you learn so much and get to surround yourself with quality company and music.
WHAT CAN'T YOU LIVE WITHOUT?
Whatsapp group chats.
TELL US ABOUT YOUR TWIN WITHIN NECKLACES.
I have 2, Capri and Rome. They are great conversation starters, and quite a few have asked if the rubber tube on Rome is glow in the dark (are they??). The Capri is a low-key staple piece that I throw on and goes with almost anything, and Rome is the pièce de résistance, the jazz, the Friday night, the killer heat - I love both very much and they arethe first few things I will save if my house is on fire.
WHEN CAN WE SEE YOU PLAY NEXT IN SINGAPORE?
Revision Music is a collective that I am running together with my partner, Nez (aka Senja), and we are celebrating the first anniversary on 2nd September together with Good Times at Blu Jazz! Event page here
September is also a busy month for Darker Than Wax, we’ve got a few international guests who will be gigging with us on the weekends - check out our Darker Than Wax events FB page for more news!
